What Is In-Home Sales?

In-Home Sales refers to the sales channel of selling products or services to individuals in their homes. During the middle years of the 1900's in-home sales was a very popular channel for many companies to sell their products. But, by 1990 in-home selling had been replaced by direct mail, tele-sales, and the Internet.

In-Home selling is once again regaining momentum as more companies realize that the closing averages of in-home sales professionals are much higher than other sales channels. Today's consumers are now inviting sales professionals representing a diverse number of products and services into their homes. These products and services include home improvements, heating and air conditioning, financial services, public utilities, entertainment systems, lawn care, banking services, and many others.

Even though there are approximately 65,000 men and women in the U.S. who sell their products or services to consumers in their homes, "in-home" selling is not a commonly known area of sales. It seems like the only people who are aware of "in-home" selling are the sales people who sell in the home. If you are an in-home sales professional, we would welcome your comments about why you chose to sell in the home and what you view are the major challenges you face on a daily basis.
